State Approvals and Licenses

BTI is authorized by the Department of Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to confer the degree of Associate in Specialized Business/Technology for completion of certain two-year programs.

BTI is licensed (registered) by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools.

BTI is an eligible institution for students to receive the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Grants.

BTI is an eligible institution for students to receive the United States Department of Education Title IV Aid (Pell, SEOG, FWS) and for participation in the Federal Direct Loan Program.

BTI is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education Division of Veterans/Military Education for Veteran’s training.

BTI is approved by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for the training of rehabilitation students.

Our History

Berks Technical Institute was originally established in February 1982 when the Lehigh Data Processing Institute received its license from the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools to provide training in data processing. In January 1984, Lehigh Data Processing Institute was granted accreditation by the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools (NATTS), which is now known as the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

In May 1987, the Institute was privately purchased, and in 1990 changed its name to Berks Technical Institute. In May 1992, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accredited the Medical Assisting program upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

In July 1996, the Institute was relocated to a 34,000 square-foot facility at 2205 Ridgewood Road, Wyomissing. In April 1999, a technology wing was added that increased the size of the facility to almost 50,000 square feet, and parking was expanded to accommodate over 600 cars. In May 2000, Berks Technical Institute was acquired by MC Education, Inc. and in March 2008, was acquired by Delta Career Education Corporation.

In 2010, the facilities were expanded to 63,500 square feet and parking was expanded to 650 cars to accommodate the growing number of students.

In 2012, Berks Technical Institute was accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award certificates, diplomas, and Associate in Specialized Business/Technology Degrees.

In January 2018, STVT-AAI Education Inc. dba Ancora Education acquired Berks Technical Institute. As part of the acquisition, the schools became accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) as branch campuses of Platt College in Tulsa, OK.

In March 2020, a new main campus was designated, and the school is now a branch campus of Miller-Motte College in Chattanooga, TN.
